Powerful Teaching and Learning
Powerful Teaching and Learning is a term we use to describe brain-based, reform-like instruction that is characterized by active-inquiry, in-depth learning and performance assessment. Powerful Teaching and Learning is student-centered, builds conceptual skills and knowledge, shows evidence of meta-cognition and personal reflection, is relevant to the learners and is supported by strong relationships.
Our work comes from over a decade of reform research in more than 1,000 schools and over 24,000 classroom observations across the country. The focus is identifying basic critical elements of effective teaching and learning and helping teachers align their instructional practices with other reform efforts. We have gone beyond the popular rhetoric that declares that instruction is important, to actually inspiring and helping teachers in the change process.
