Student Learning Communities™Student Learning Communities are a purposeful, organizational classroom structure designed to engage students in interdependent learning, where they think and work together, support one another, and enhance their understanding through shared dialogue and experiences. At the heart of this approach is the Four Habits of Powerful Teaching and Learning— a framework that aligns classroom instruction with how the human brain naturally learns best. These habits include creating an environment where students' brains are ready to learn, where the learning intention is clear, where students talk and explain their thinking to peers, and where students explore their understanding with peers. A Student Learning Community brings these habits to life, equipping educators with the strategies needed to cultivate student-centered learning environments that spark engagement and elevate academic success. We think of Powerful Teaching and Learning as the pedagogical approach to teaching and learning and Student Learning Communities as the vehicle to get there. The three-tiered framework of a Student Learning Communities include: Learning Partners, Learning Teams, and Learning Environment. These interconnected levels function as a cohesive structure for creating engaging student-centered classrooms.
