Effective Practices
The BERC Group can provide presentations related to effective practices at the classroom, school, and district levels. We have synthesized our research and our experiences to create several engaging and informative presentations.
Building off thousands of classroom observations using the STAR Classroom Observation Protocol™, a BERC Presenter introduces and explores the concepts of Powerful Teaching and Learning™. Typically lasting a half-day, these presentations include video of classroom lessons, teacher testimonials, and data gathered by The BERC Group, Washington School Research Center and Fouts and Associates. Energetic and inspiring, these presentations can be designed for a wide range of audiences, including school faculty and staff, district administration, and professional development leaders.
Three separate presentations are available and build upon each other:
- Powerful Teaching and Learning: How We Define It – The fundamental concepts of Powerful Teaching and Learning are introduced, along with supportive research data and a brief history of the Reform Movement. Educators will gain experience using the STAR Classroom Observation Protocol by seeing classroom instruction.
- Powerful Teaching and Learning: How Teachers Develop It – The various methods for developing Powerful Teaching and Learning are explored, including use of the STAR Classroom Observation Protocol.
- Powerful Teaching and Learning: How Systems Support It –District level strategies and practices for supporting Power Teaching and Learning are explored, including testimonial by staff and administration.
